The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission has released a full set of resources to support the NDIS Workforce Capability Framework (the Framework) and help improve service quality for participants, support providers and workers.
The Framework describes the attitudes, skills and knowledge expected of all workers funded under the NDIS and establishes a shared language of ‘what good looks like’ for participants.
Tools, guides and resources have been created with sector consultation to support participants, providers and workers to increase the capability and quality of NDIS supports. This includes tools for hiring workers, supervising, providing feedback, workforce planning and management, career planning and training opportunities.
People with disability need access to quality services from providers and workers in the disability sector, which has driven this project to lead consistency in practice and the delivery of quality services across Australia.
These resources have the expectation that people with disability have the right to have a say in the delivery of their supports and to provide feedback in their day-to-day lives. This is embedded for providers in the resources.
The Framework is written from the view of the participant and focuses on their goals for receiving quality supports and maintaining their independence and rights as a person with disability.
Tools and guides include:
- Recruitment and Selection Resources,
- Workforce Management and Planning Tool and strategy document,
- Supervision and training guidance,
- A Career Options Guide for current workers, and
- Self-assessment quiz for workers interested in the sector.
NDIS Commissioner, Tracy Mackey, said that the Framework provided a solid guide for participants, providers and workers to work together to uphold the rights of participants.
“The Framework translates the NDIS Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct into observable behaviours that service providers and workers should demonstrate when delivering services,” she said.
“The supporting tools, guides and resources provide helpful templates, tips and ideas for how to not only deliver supports, but also how to give feedback, manage staff and workforce as well as how to carry out a full recruitment process.
“We would like to thank participants, providers, workers, peak bodies and experts who contributed to our consultation and testing of the Framework, tools and guides.
“It is our hope that this suite of guidance will be of great help across the industry as we look to further improve the quality of supports for people with disability in Australia.”
